Dr. Norman Zada
Norm Zada (also known as Norm Zadeh) has a background in applied mathematics, gambling, and the financial markets. Norm’s father (Lotfi) created Fuzzy Logic. During 1972-73, Norm worked in IBM’s computer science department. From 1975 to 1983, he taught as a professor at Stanford, UCLA, Columbia, and U.C. Irvine. In 1983, Norm started running real money financial competitions, beginning with the United States Trading Championship, followed by the United States Investing Championship, and later, Money Manager Verified Ratings. In 1991, Norm teamed up with Jeff Goodstein to launch several hedge funds, including Ultima Partners, which Norm managed. Norm and Jeff parted ways in 1998. Norm stopped managing money in 2012. In 1996, Norm started a tasteful, all-natural adult magazine called Perfect 10. He lost $51 million due to never-ending piracy and some horrific rulings by Federal judges. The most incredible ruling made by the Ninth Circuit was that it was legal for Giganews, a company with 25,000 terabytes of unauthorized movies, songs, and images on its servers, to copy and distribute such unlicensed works to its customers for a monthly fee. Everything was decided in favor of Giganews with no jury involvement, even though all similar prior cases had been decided in favor of the plaintiff. (See Chapter 44, “PERFECT 10 vs. Giganews” from “The Rise and Fall of Perfect 10.”) Despite a compelling amicus brief filed by the Recording Industry Association of America arguing that the district court had gotten everything wrong, Perfect 10 not only lost but was ordered to pay Giganews $6 million in attorneys fees. That ended Perfect 10’s existence. Norm has written four books, Winning Poker Systems, published by Prentice Hall in 1974, and three books available on Amazon: Hold’em Poker Super Strategy, The Rise and Fall of Perfect 10, and Fox News: The Enemy Within.
